A sunset cruise in Cancun can be a mangrove paddle, a stand-up paddleboard session or a sail to Isla Mujeres with a drink in hand. I found three, from $47 to $76, and none of them is a big dinner ship. They are all calm, and sunset in Cancun is early enough to make an evening plan easy: between about 6:06 PM and 7:33 PM all year. For the rest of the list, see my overview of boat tours in Cancun. Prices are in US dollars, checked in October 2026, and the booking links are affiliate links, as I explain on my about page.
My pick is the sunset kayak through the mangroves from Go Kayak Cancun: $50, 2 hours, rated 4.8 from 283 reviews, the best-proven of the three.
A sunset cruise in Cancun, Mexico splits into the paddle trips on the Nichupte Lagoon and a sail on the Caribbean side. The lagoon is calm and protected, and the kayak listing describes golden light on the water and birds returning to the mangroves as the sun drops. It adds that every sunset is different and wildlife sightings depend on the day.

The sunset times below are my calculation for Cancun’s coordinates, from the sunrise-sunset.org service, shown as local clock time for the middle of each month. Cancun keeps the same clock time all year in these figures, so there is no winter shift. You can check any date with the NOAA solar calculator.
| Month | Sunset (mid-month) | Month | Sunset (mid-month) |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 6:27 PM | July | 7:33 PM |
| February | 6:46 PM | August | 7:18 PM |
| March | 6:57 PM | September | 6:51 PM |
| April | 7:07 PM | October | 6:24 PM |
| May | 7:19 PM | November | 6:06 PM |
| June | 7:31 PM | December | 6:09 PM |
| Operator | Price | Duration | Boat type | Rating | Cancellation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Go Kayak Cancun | $50 | 2 hours | Single or tandem kayak | 4.8 (283 reviews) | Free up to 24 hours |
| Conexion Nativa Cancun | $47 | 2 hours | Stand-up paddleboard | 5.0 (5 reviews) | Free up to 24 hours |
| pata de peek travel | $76 | 5 hours | Sailing boat with transfer | 5.0 (1 review) | Free up to 24 hours |
Sunset sailing in Cancun is a single listing in my data: the pata de peek travel sail to Isla Mujeres with a Cancun transfer, $76 for 5 hours. It meets at Oasis Smart on Tulum Avenue, sails to Isla Mujeres, stops at Playa Norte and gives you free time in the town before it returns after dark. It includes rum, vodka and tequila, sodas, mixed drinks and snacks, and the round transportation. It has a perfect 5.0 but from just 1 review, and the one reviewer regrets that the sun did not come out.

My pick: The only sunset sail: $76, 5 hours, transfer and open drinks included; 5.0 from 1 review.
The $20 government dock fee per person is listed as not included, so the true price is closer to $96. If you want the same destination on a bigger boat, my page on a catamaran tour in Cancun lists the all-day trips, and the page on sailing in Cancun puts this sail next to a speedboat day.
I did not find a sunset catamaran cruise. The catamarans in my data are all-day trips of 8 to 10 hours with snorkeling and a beach club, and they return to the marina in the late afternoon or evening depending on the start time. None of the listings sets a fixed departure time. If a catamaran at golden hour is what you want, message the operator before booking and ask when your sailing returns.
A private boat is the other way to catch the sunset on a catamaran-style outing: the yachts on my yacht rental in Cancun page are 2 to 6 hours and you agree the slot with the operator, from $314 for the whole boat.
The stand-up paddleboard tour is the cheapest sunset outing at $47, and it is bookable at sunrise as well. It starts at Marina Kaybal, downstairs from the Las Hijas de la Tostada restaurant and across the street from the Temptation Hotel. The price includes the board, life vest, paddle, a certified guide, photos and transport, and the route is on the Nichupte Lagoon. It excludes people over 220 lbs (100 kg), and it has 5 reviews at a perfect 5.0.

Conexion Nativa Cancun
My pick: Cheapest sunset outing: $47, 2 hours, certified guide, sunrise or sunset slot; 5.0 from only 5 reviews.
None of the 14 boat trips in my data is a dinner cruise, and I won’t dress a snack up as one. The nearest thing to a dinner on a sunset cruise in Cancun is the sail with snacks and drinks. If dinner is your plan, I’d book a table after the paddle or the sail rather than on it. For a louder evening, the party boat page compares two 3-hour DJ cruises, and the snorkeling tour page has the daytime trips.
The Hotel Zone is a thin strip of land with the Caribbean on its east side and the Nichupte Lagoon on its west side, so the sun sets over the lagoon and the mainland, not over the open sea. That is why the best Cancun sunset cruise for a clean view of the sky is often a lagoon trip. The kayak and paddleboard tours both stay on the lagoon, and the stand-up paddleboard start at Marina Kaybal sits at kilometer 3.5 of the boulevard, about a kilometer from Marina Las Perlas by my measurement from the place data.
The sail to Isla Mujeres is a different evening: you cross toward the island and sit on the beach at Playa Norte, then sail back in the dark. Which view is better is a matter of taste, but I would pick the lagoon for the sky and the island for the company. For the island’s tourism information, the Quintana Roo tourism board is the official source.
Each trip has its own list, so read the included section before packing. For the kayak: a single or tandem kayak, paddle, seats, a life jacket, a bilingual guide and drinking water are included, and you are asked to bring a reusable bottle if possible. The kayak listing excludes children under 8, pregnant women, people with back, heart or mobility problems, recent surgeries, a low level of fitness and people over 254 lbs (115 kg).
For the paddleboard: the board, vest, paddle, certified guide, photos and transport are included, and tips of 15 percent are recommended. For the sail: cash for the $20 dock fee, a light jacket for the return after dark, and a phone that is safe in a bag. On any Cancun sunset cruise, mosquito repellent is a sensible addition near the mangroves in the evening, and I’d ask the guide whether the day calls for it.
For a sunset cruise in Cancun, I’d book the $50 mangrove kayak for a quiet first evening, because 283 reviews back it. I’d pick the $76 sail for a social Cancun sunset cruise and the $47 paddleboard for a cheap, active one. Check the weather the day before any Cancun sunset cruise; the kayak reviews show the guides will adjust. For the rest of my Cancun comparisons, go back to the guide to boat tours in Cancun or the home page.
I found three sunset trips: $47 for the 2-hour stand-up paddleboard tour, $50 for the 2-hour mangrove kayak and $76 for the 5-hour sunset sail to Isla Mujeres with a Cancun transfer. The sail lists a government dock fee of $20 per person as not included, so budget about $96 for it.
By my calculation for Cancun's coordinates, sunset ranges from about 6:06 PM in mid-November to 7:33 PM in mid-July. December and January sit near 6:09 PM and 6:27 PM, and the rest of the year falls in between. Check your exact date on the NOAA solar calculator, because the table gives mid-month figures only.
I did not find a sunset dinner cruise among the 14 boat trips in my data. The sunset sail to Isla Mujeres serves snacks, sodas, mixed drinks, rum, vodka and tequila, but no dinner is listed. If a dinner is the point of your evening, I'd book a table separately and add a paddle or a sail to the day.
The Go Kayak Cancun tour meets at Marina Scuba Cancun, next to the swimming pool where the kayaks are kept, and asks you to arrive 20 minutes early. It paddles the mangrove channels of Nichupte Lagoon. The stand-up paddleboard tour starts at Marina Kaybal, below the Las Hijas de la Tostada restaurant.
All three list free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start for a full refund. Because the experience depends on the sky, one kayak reviewer says the guide offered to reschedule when rain began and then found a window to paddle. I'd still check the weather forecast the day before and message the operator.
