Malolo Molokini Snorkeling Charters
South Maui: Molokini & Turtle Town Snorkeling Tour with Meal
4.3 (969) · from $160

Snorkeling in Maui from a boat is the best way I know of to reach the reef sites that you cannot walk to. I compared the four snorkel trips on GetYourGuide, from $100 for three hours to $192 for four hours with a buffet lunch. Two go to Molokini Crater, one goes to Coral Gardens, and one sails along the west coast. For the wider list of cruises, see my guide to boat tours in Maui. Prices are in US dollars, checked in October 2026, and booking links are affiliate links, as I explain on my about page.
My pick for snorkeling in Maui at Molokini is the Calypso Molokini Snorkeling Adventure at $190: 5.5 hours, 4.6 from 481 reviews, with lifeguards in the water. If I wanted the lowest price, I’d take the $100 Malolo afternoon trip.
Snorkeling in Maui, Hawaii on a boat tour comes down to the site and the time you can give it. The table puts the four side by side.
| Trip | Operator | Price | Duration | Boat | Rating | Cancellation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Molokini and Turtle Town with meal | Malolo Molokini Snorkeling Charters | $160 | 5 to 5.5 hours | Catamaran | 4.3 (969) | 2 days ahead |
| Coral Gardens or Molokini Crater | Malolo Molokini Snorkeling Charters | $100 | 3 hours | Catamaran | 4.3 (792) | 2 days ahead |
| Molokini Snorkeling Adventure | Calypso Molokini Charters | $190 | 5.5 hours | Triple-deck catamaran | 4.6 (481) | 2 days ahead |
| Snorkeling and Sailing with Buffet Lunch | Gemini Sailing Charters | $192 | 4 hours | Sailing catamaran | 4.8 (137) | 24 hours ahead |
All four include snorkel gear and flotation devices. The Malolo and Calypso depart from Ma’alaea Harbor on the south coast, and the Gemini leaves from Ka’anapali on the west coast. That is the first choice: which side of the island you are on decides the site and the length of the day.
The cheapest of the Maui snorkeling tours is the Malolo afternoon snorkel at $100. The listing describes a 45-minute cruise with a safety briefing, 1.5 hours in the water at Coral Gardens, then 45 minutes back with a hot dog lunch. Beer, cocktails and wine are for sale, and a wetsuit and underwater camera are available to rent. It has 4.3 from 792 reviews. A reviewer calls it a must-do and another says there was plenty of time to snorkel.
Check-in is mandatory 30 minutes before departure at the Boss Frog’s shop at 300 Ma’alaea Road, Building 2, Shop 2N. The listing says the trip is not suitable for people with heart problems. Cancellation is free up to 2 days before.

My pick: The cheapest snorkel trip on the list: $100, 3 hours, Coral Gardens or Molokini, 4.3 from 792 reviews.
The best snorkeling in Maui, by my ratings, comes from the trips with the highest scores and the most in-water support. The Gemini snorkel and sail from Ka’anapali has the best rating at 4.8 from 137 reviews. It costs $192 for four hours and includes a hot buffet lunch, a complimentary bar with Mai Tais, Chardonnay and Maui Brewing beers, quality snorkel gear, prescription masks and small gear for kids. The main site most of the year is the Honolua Bay Marine Reserve, with Cliff-house, Lanai and Olowalu’s Turtle Town as alternatives. You can read about Hawaii’s marine reserves on the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources site.
The Gemini meets on the lawn in front of Ulu Kitchen restaurant, by the check-in sign, and the listing says to park at the Whalers Village garage. Cancellation is up to 24 hours ahead for a full refund. The listing does not state sea conditions, and I won’t either, so look at the day’s conditions before you go.

Gemini Sailing Charters
My pick: The best-rated snorkel trip: $192, 4 hours, hot buffet lunch, bar and prescription masks, 4.8 from 137 reviews.
Molokini snorkeling tours are the half-day trips from Ma’alaea. The Calypso is the one I’d book: $190, 5.5 hours on a triple-deck, glass-bottomed catamaran, rated 4.6 from 481 reviews. The itinerary has an hour of cruising with breakfast, 2.5 hours snorkeling at Molokini and Turtle Town, and an hour back with lunch. The listing includes a cooked breakfast, lunch, unlimited soda, juice and water, hot coffee and tea, and a snorkel 101 tutorial. Lifeguards are posted in the water, and a naturalist helps you identify what you see.
Alcohol is $3 a drink, towels and tips are not included, and parking is an extra cost. The meeting point is Slip 76 to 78 on the South Ferry Dock on Ma’alaea Road, where you look out for the Calypso. Cancel up to 2 days ahead for a full refund. Reviewers say the boat is clean and the stairs make entering the water easy.

Calypso Molokini Charters
My pick: My Molokini pick: $190, 5.5 hours, lifeguards and a naturalist, 4.6 from 481 reviews.
The crater is Molokini, a partially submerged volcanic crater off the south coast, and the listings describe it as a reef sheltered by the crater wall. It is why people book these boats: you cannot reach it on foot. Hawaii manages it as a marine life conservation area, so what you do in the water matters, and I’d use reef-safe sunscreen. The Calypso and Malolo trips say Molokini is weather permitting, so the site can change on the day.
The shorter Malolo trip puts Coral Gardens in its itinerary and Molokini in its title, which is a mismatch I’d check with the operator. That one detail is the biggest reason I would book a five-hour trip if Molokini matters to you.
The Malolo Molokini and Turtle Town snorkel with a meal is the best known of the Molokini trips by volume: 969 reviews at 4.3. It costs $160 for 5 to 5.5 hours. The itinerary crosses the Alalakeiki Channel to Molokini, returns across the channel to Maluaka Beach for Turtle Town, and crosses back. It starts with a continental breakfast of fruit, muffins and pastries, and lunch is flatbread turkey sandwiches or veggie burgers with potato salad and cookies.
A wetsuit costs $10, an underwater camera $85 and Dramamine $5 for two tablets. There are two restrooms on board and freshwater showers. A reviewer was disappointed that they could not see turtles, though the crew tried to get them there, which is a reminder that wildlife is never guaranteed.

My pick: The all-day Molokini and Turtle Town trip with breakfast and lunch: $160, 4.3 from 969 reviews.
The listings agree on the basics, and I’d add one habit: pack as if you will be wet for hours. Bring a towel, because the Calypso lists towels as not included. Bring cash or a card for the extras, which on these trips are alcohol at $3 on the Calypso, rentals on the Malolo and tips on all but the Gemini, whose listing includes a bar. Motion sickness is a real risk on the long crossings, and the Malolo sells Dramamine at $5 for two tablets, so a tablet before you board is worth thinking about. Read the listing’s health notes too, because the short Malolo trip excludes people with heart problems.
Finally, arrive early. The Malolo afternoon trip requires check-in 30 minutes before departure, the Gemini asks you to find the check-in sign on the lawn, and the Calypso expects you at the slips on Ma’alaea Road. Missing the boat is the one way to lose a trip that the cancellation rules will not cover, so plan the drive and parking with some margin.
For a first snorkeling trip in Maui I’d choose by coast and by time. On the south side I’d take the Calypso for Molokini or the $100 Malolo if I only had an afternoon. On the west side, the Gemini is the only one in my list. If your group includes kids, the Gemini lists small gear for kids, and the Malolo lists flotation devices.
Before you book, read the trips that suit the season on my whale watching page, and the evening trips on my sunset cruise page. My sailing page shows the Gemini beside two other sailing trips, the catamaran page covers the stable boats, and the dinner cruise page the meal trips. The home page lists the other cities on the site. For the full set of every Maui boat trip I compared, go back to my guide to boat tours in Maui.
The four snorkel boat trips I compared cost $100 for the 3-hour Malolo afternoon trip, $160 for the 5 to 5.5 hour Malolo Molokini and Turtle Town trip with meals, $190 for the 5.5-hour Calypso, and $192 for the 4-hour Gemini snorkel and sail from Ka'anapali. Gear is included on all four, but rentals like wetsuits cost extra.
The listings give total trip lengths, not the crossing. The Malolo and Calypso Molokini trips last 5 to 5.5 hours from Ma'alaea Harbor, including breakfast, two snorkel stops and lunch. The Calypso itinerary shows about an hour of cruising each way and 2.5 hours at Molokini.
The two best-rated Molokini trips are the Calypso at 4.6 from 481 reviews and the Malolo at 4.3 from 969. Reviewers praise the crews and the breakfast, and one Malolo guest missed the turtles. I would choose a trip with gear and food included, and read the latest reviews for your month.
For Molokini I'd book the Calypso, $190, because it has lifeguards in the water, a naturalist on board and 4.6 from 481 reviews. For the west coast I'd take the Gemini, $192, rated 4.8 from 137. On a budget, the Malolo afternoon trip at $100 is the cheapest in my list.
Snorkel gear and flotation devices are on all four trips. The Malolo Molokini trip adds breakfast, lunch, freshwater showers and two restrooms. The Calypso lists a cooked breakfast, a lunch, a naturalist and lifeguards. The Gemini includes a hot buffet lunch, a bar, prescription masks and small gear for kids.
The 3-hour Malolo afternoon trip says Coral Gardens or Molokini Crater in its title, and its itinerary shows Coral Gardens. The Molokini stops are on the 5 to 5.5 hour trips. If Molokini is the reason you are going, I'd book one of those and check the listing for the day's site.
