Boat Tours in Cancun – Skyrider Parasailing Experience

Sailing Cancun style is mostly a day on a catamaran or a short sail with drinks, and the real choice is between a calm sail and something faster. I compared three trips that fit the word sailing in my data: a $76 sunset sail to Isla Mujeres, a $147 speedboat day with parasailing and a $60 parasailing flight. For everything else on the water, my guide to boat tours in Cancun has the full list. Prices are in US dollars, checked in October 2026, and the booking links are affiliate links, as I explain on my about page.

My pick for sailing in Cancun is the sunset sail to Isla Mujeres with transfer at $76: 5 hours, 5.0 from 1 review, so a promising listing rather than a proven one. For a proven day under sail I’d go to the $35 catamaran.

Sailing Cancun Mexico

Sailing in Cancun, Mexico is easier to book as a tour than as a charter, because most boats leave from the Hotel Zone marinas on fixed programs. The sunset sail is the one that comes closest to a true sailing evening: it sails to Isla Mujeres, stops at Playa Norte and returns to the Hotel Zone after dark. It includes round transportation from Cancun, rum, vodka and tequila, sodas and mixed drinks, snacks and free time in the island town.

It meets at Oasis Smart on Tulum Avenue in Cancun, not at a marina. The government dock fee of $20 per person is listed as not included in the description, even though another line lists it, so I would assume you pay it and confirm at checkout.

Cancun Sailing Catamaran

A Cancun sailing catamaran is what most visitors mean when they search for sailing, and I keep those on their own page: my guide to a catamaran tour in Cancun compares the three Isla Mujeres days. In short, the $35 Amigo Tours LATAM trip has 3,335 reviews and is the best-proven; the $56 Trekzy trip has 377 reviews. Both are 8 to 10 hours with snorkeling and an open bar.

Cancun Trip Cost

The cost of a sailing trip in Cancun depends on the fees paid on the day. The $76 sunset sail lists a $20 dock fee, the $147 speedboat day lists a federal marine tax of $20 per person, and the $60 parasailing flight lists a $22 reef preservation fee. Those fees are paid in cash or at check-in in several listings. So a fair budget is about $96 for the sunset sail, $167 for the speedboat day and $82 for parasailing.

The speedboat trip is the best value if you want several activities in one outing. It lists an air-conditioned van, snorkel equipment, water, a light Mexican snack and juice, and photos and videos. It excludes children under 5, pregnant women and people with back or heart problems. The company, Teve Transfers and Tours, offers its languages in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Sailing Cancun Mexico Reviews

Reviews decide how much I trust a listing, and the three sailing trips are thin. The sunset sail and the speedboat day have one review each, both perfect fives. The one visible review of the sunset sail praises the crew and the atmosphere on board, and regrets that the sun did not come out. That small detail is useful: it tells you the sail does not guarantee a colorful sunset, and weather can change the evening.

The parasailing trip is the best-reviewed of the three, with 4.6 from 149 reviews. The reviews describe a calm, smooth flight and helpful staff, and the listing states that the equipment is designed for a comfortable and secure ride.

Cancun Sailing Reviews

For a wider read of sailing in Cancun, the number to remember is the review count: 3,335 for the $35 catamaran, 377 for Trekzy, 149 for parasailing and 1 each for the sunset sail and the speedboat day. My rule is to trust a rating once it has a hundred reviews behind it, and to treat anything below ten as a hint. On that rule, the catamaran and parasailing are proven, and the sail and the speedboat are worth booking only if the price and the plan suit you.

Parasailing is a different thing from sailing, but it is how many visitors see the Nichupte Lagoon and the Hotel Zone from above. If you want a quiet paddle instead, the sunset cruise page lists a kayak and a paddleboard tour, and the snorkeling tour page covers reef trips. A private yacht is the other way to get a sail with your own group: see yacht rental in Cancun. Anyone who wants a night out should read the party boat page.

Sail, Speedboat or Parasail

The three trips answer three different questions. If you want to relax with a drink and see Isla Mujeres at dusk, the sunset sail is the one: 5 hours, with a transfer so nobody needs to drive. If you want to do things, the speedboat day packs a reef, a beach, a photo at the Cancun sign and a parasail flight into 5 hours. If you have only an hour to spare, parasailing is a 30-minute activity with a 10-minute flight and hotel pickup.

Timing differs as well. The sunset sail sets off in the afternoon and comes back after dark, since the listing marks it as an evening trip. Sunset in Cancun falls at 6:06 PM in mid-November and 7:33 PM in mid-July by my calculation for the city’s coordinates. The speedboat and parasailing trips do not state set start times in my data, so pick a slot at checkout and read the confirmation message.

What to Check Before Sailing in Cancun

Every option for sailing in Cancun has a fee that is paid on the day, so carry some cash. The sunset sail has the $20 dock fee, the speedboat day the $20 federal marine tax at check-in and parasailing the $22 reef fee in cash. Bring a card for the rest, a hat and a towel, and sunscreen that is safe for the reef. The Mexican protected areas agency, CONANP, manages the marine park that covers these waters, and the crews follow its rules.

Finally, consider the weather. One reviewer of the sunset sail wrote that the sun did not come out, and one reviewer of the sunset kayak says the guide offered to reschedule when rain started. Operators generally have a policy for unsafe weather, and the Puerto Morelos listing spells out refunds for it, so ask what yours does. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start is listed for all sailing options in this guide.

Which Sailing Trip I’d Book

For sailing in Cancun I’d book the sunset sail for a first evening, the catamaran for a first day and parasailing for a short thrill. Before paying, check the fee, the meeting point and the cancellation text. For other trip types go back to my overview of boat tours in Cancun or the home page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does sailing in Cancun cost?

In my data the sunset sail to Isla Mujeres with transfer costs $76 for 5 hours, parasailing costs $60 for a 30-minute activity and the speedboat day with parasailing costs $147 for 5 hours. The full-day catamarans start at $35. Dock, reef and marine fees of $20 to $22 per person are often paid on top.

Is there a sailing trip to Isla Mujeres from Cancun?

Yes. The pata de peek travel sunset sail picks you up with a round-trip transfer from Cancun, sails to Isla Mujeres, stops at Playa Norte and leaves free time for the town. It costs $76 for 5 hours. The $20 government dock fee is listed as not included, so add it to your budget.

What is the cheapest way to go sailing in Cancun?

The cheapest sail is the $35 Amigo Tours LATAM catamaran, which takes 8 to 10 hours and is rated 4.2 from 3,335 reviews. Add the $20 port fee and the real price is about $55. For a short sunset sail with a transfer, the pata de peek travel trip is $76 for 5 hours.

Do I need experience for parasailing in Cancun?

No. The Skyrider parasailing listing says guests get instructions first, then a slow and smooth rise from a platform on the back of a boat, and a 10-minute flight. It costs $60 and includes a life jacket, hotel pickup and photos. The $22 reef preservation fee is paid in cash at check-in.

Are there sailing trips for kids in Cancun?

Check each listing. The speedboat and parasailing day excludes children under 5, pregnant women, people with back or heart problems and people over 260 lbs (118 kg). The parasailing listing is built around a flight for two. I found no age rule for the sunset sail, so I'd ask the operator before bringing young children.
