Boat Tours Bali – Lovina/Bali: Sunrise Dolphin Watching, Swimming & Snorkeling

Snorkeling in Bali is a boat trip first and a swim second, because the best reefs sit off islands and bays you have to reach by boat. I compared the seven trips on GetYourGuide that include a snorkel stop, from a $14 dolphin trip in Lovina to a $496 private yacht day. For every boat tour I compared in the city, see my guide to boat tours in Bali. Prices are in US dollars, checked in October 2026, and booking links are affiliate links, as I explain on my about page.

My pick for snorkeling in Bali is the Wonderland Manta Penida 3-spot tour at $44, rated 4.6 from 3,303 reviews. On a budget I’d take the Lovina sunrise dolphin trip at $14, rated 4.7 from 3,144 reviews. I haven’t been on any of these boats, so my choices rest on the listings and the review snippets.

Bali Indonesia Snorkeling

Snorkeling in Bali, Indonesia, splits into three areas in my data. The Nusa Penida trips cross from Sanur by fast boat. The Lembongan trip crosses on a larger ferry. The Lovina trips stay on the north coast, where the reef is a short boat ride from the beach. The Nusa Penida and Lembongan trips are the full-day ones, and the Lovina trips are the cheap, short ones.

Bali Snorkeling Trip

A Bali snorkeling trip to Nusa Penida is the one most travelers book, and it is worth knowing how much of the day is spent in the water. The Wonderland Manta Penida listing describes a fast boat crossing of about 45 minutes each way and gives four options: roughly 6 hours for shared snorkeling meeting at Sanur Port, 7.5 hours with a round-Bali transfer, and 10 to 11.5 hours for the West Nusa Penida land tour plus snorkeling. In the longest options the land tour at Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach and Angel’s Billabong comes first, and the snorkeling boat follows in the afternoon, so about half the day is on the road. The listing does not publish the hours at each stop.

The Lembongan trip is similar: a ferry from Sanur Harbour, three snorkel stops, a buffet lunch and an optional kayak or massage. The Manta Point trip from Nusa Penida’s own side is the shortest, listed from 3 hours, and its West Coast sightseeing is only in options that say so in the title. Reviewers like the guides: one Wonderland snippet says the guide gave a story about every spot, and a Lembongan reviewer called swimming with manta rays the highlight.

Snorkeling Bali Blue Lagoon

Searches for snorkeling at the Bali Blue Lagoon point to Blue Lagoon Beach near Padang Bai on the east coast, which Google Maps lists at 4.2. None of the seven trips goes there, and none of the listings names it as a stop. It is about 37 km in a straight line from Sanur, which is why it needs its own transport. If that is your plan, I’d compare it with the boat trips here and decide whether the reef you want is on the Nusa Penida or Lovina routes instead. The boat trips I list include the gear, a guide and a boat to the spot, which a beach swim does not.

Snorkeling Bali Nusa Dua

Nusa Dua is a pickup area, not a snorkeling spot, on my list. The Lembongan trip lists Nusa Dua among the hotel pickup areas, with Jimbaran, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak and Sanur. The Serangan sunset yacht sails past Nusa Dua and Tanjung Benoa, but it is a sunset charter without snorkeling in the inclusions. If you stay in Nusa Dua, you pay for the transfer by choosing a hotel pickup option, and the Lembongan listing lists other areas as add-ons.

Snorkeling Bali Sanur

Snorkeling from Sanur means a boat to the islands, since Sanur is the port for the two largest trips. The Wonderland Manta Penida option meets at Sanur Port and the Lembongan ferry leaves from Sanur Harbour. The private yacht starts at Mertasari Beach in Sanur and meets at Surya Lagoon Restaurant on Sanur Beach. The Wonderland listing also gives its fast boat crossing as about 45 minutes, so a Sanur start is the quickest way to reach the Nusa Penida reefs. If you only have one morning, the roughly 6 hour Sanur Port option is the one I’d look at first.

Snorkeling Bali Seminyak

Seminyak is again a pickup area. The Lembongan trip includes hotel pickup in Seminyak, and the Wonderland trips offer shared hotel pickup depending on the option. A pickup adds driving time before the boat, and one reviewer of the Wonderland trip mentions transport from Kuta to Sanur before the snorkeling. If your hotel is in Seminyak, I’d check the pickup time on the booking page so the early boat doesn’t surprise you.

Private Yacht Snorkeling

The seventh trip is the Golden Horizon private yacht at $496, 9 to 10 hours, which starts at Mertasari Beach and snorkels Manta Point, Gamat Bay and Mangrove Point before lunch with an infinity pool and a private land trip to Kelingking Beach. It is priced for your group, with premium gear and a GoPro included, but with 2 reviews I can only say it exists. I compare it with the other private boats on my yacht charter page, and the Lovina fishing boat is covered with the other angling trips on my fishing charter page. For dusk on the water, my sunset cruise page has the Lovina sunset snorkeling boat too.

Which Snorkeling Tour in Bali Fits You

The right snorkeling tour in Bali depends on how far you want to travel. If you are staying in the south and want the famous Nusa Penida bays, the Wonderland trips are the proven ones, with 3,303 and 1,710 reviews, and the listing for the 3-spot trip says a GoPro, towel and shower are part of the package. If you are traveling with friends who don’t snorkel, the Lembongan trip is better for a mixed group, because the lunch and the optional mangrove paddle give them something to do. If you are in Lovina or in the north anyway, the dolphin trip at $14 is the best price for snorkeling in Bali, though the day starts at sunrise and the listing says the length with hotel transfers varies from 2 to 10 hours.

I’d avoid choosing on price alone. The $28 Manta Point trip is the cheapest Nusa Penida route, but some options start at Penida Port, so you may need to arrange the crossing yourself. The private yacht at $496 is expensive for two but fair for a group of ten, since the price covers the yacht, crew, lunch, gear and the private land tour. Whatever you pick, bring reef-safe sunscreen and tell the guide if you are a weak swimmer, because every guide on these trips controls the pace.

What to Check Before You Book

Three things matter more than the star rating. First, read the option title, because the same listing mixes snorkel-only, land-tour and private options with different lengths. Second, check lunch and gear: the Wonderland trips don’t include lunch, and the Lembongan snorkel-only package leaves out the buffet. Third, look at sea conditions: all the listings say spots depend on weather, and Indonesia’s weather agency BMKG publishes marine forecasts. All seven trips give a full refund up to 24 hours before the start.

For the wider comparison, my guide to every Bali boat tour I compared shows the dinner, sunset and fishing trips next to these. If you want to see the complete range of snorkeling in Bali before you choose, the Lovina and Nusa Penida trips are the two ends of it: $14 for a morning off the north coast, $44 to $47 for a full day at the islands.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best snorkeling tour in Bali?

For a first trip I'd book the Wonderland Manta Penida 3-spot tour at $44: 4.6 from 3,303 reviews, with Manta Bay, Crystal Bay and Gamat Bay after a 45-minute fast boat from Sanur. For a cheaper day on the mainland I'd take the Lovina sunrise dolphin and snorkeling trip at $14, rated 4.7 from 3,144 reviews.

How much does snorkeling in Bali cost?

The seven snorkeling trips I compared run from $14 to $496 in US dollars. The Lovina trips cost $14, $18 and $30, the Nusa Penida trips $28 to $47, and the private yacht day $496. Gear is included on every trip, but lunch is not on the Wonderland trips, so budget for it.

Are manta rays guaranteed on a Bali snorkeling tour?

No. The Wonderland Manta Penida listing says manta rays turn up on approximately 30% of trips and depend on weather, currents and season. The Manta Point listing also says sightings are not guaranteed. Both still give you reef snorkeling at other bays, so decide whether the rest of the trip is worth the price on its own.

Where does snorkeling in Bali start from?

Most Nusa Penida and Lembongan trips board at Sanur, either at the port or at Mertasari Beach for the private yacht. The Lovina trips start from the beach in the north, with a meeting point sign for Saka Bali Putu Tour. Hotel pickup is an option on most of them, and the Lembongan trip lists the areas it covers.

How long is a snorkeling tour from Bali?

From 2 hours to 11.5 hours, depending on the option. The Lovina trips start at 2 hours, the Manta Point trip at 3, and the Wonderland 3-spot trip is about 6 hours when you meet at Sanur Port. Adding the West Nusa Penida land tour makes it 10 to 11.5 hours, so check the option before you pay.

Can beginners join a snorkeling trip in Bali?

Yes on the trips that say so. The Lembongan listing says flotation devices are available so everyone can swim comfortably, and every Nusa Penida trip I compared includes a guide and a life jacket. The Wonderland Manta Penida listing says snorkeling is guided and follows safety procedures. Tell the guide how confident you are in open water.
