Boat Tours in Bali – Bali/Lovina: Private Fishing Tour with Snorkeling Option

A fishing charter in Bali means a private boat, a local captain and a few hours of line fishing, and the three I compared on GetYourGuide start at $30. They sit on two different coasts: Lovina in the north, and the east coast near Padang Bai and Sanur. For every boat trip I compared, see my guide to boat tours in Bali. Prices are in US dollars, checked in October 2026, and booking links are affiliate links, as I explain on my about page.

My pick for a fishing charter in Bali is the Balitravelescape private charter at $55: 5 to 7 hours, hotel pickup, five hours of fishing and a rating of 4.4 from 20 reviews. If you want to spend as little as possible, I’d take the Lovina private fishing tour at $30. I haven’t fished from any of these boats, so I rely on the listings and review snippets.

Bali Fishing Charters

Here are the three Bali fishing charters side by side. The operator column shows who runs each boat.

Charter Operator Price Duration Rating Includes
Lovina private fishing tour CV Saka Bali Putu Tour $30 2.5 to 8 hours 4.3 (24) Traditional boat, fishing gear, water, insurance
Padang Bai fishing charter Balitravelescape $55 5 to 7 hours 4.4 (20) Hotel pickup, car, guide, gear, 5 hours of fishing, drink
Sunrise fishing and sightseeing Balitravelescape $84 5 hours 5.0 (12) Hotel pickup, car, guide, gear, bait, soft drink

All three Bali fishing charters offer a full refund up to 24 hours before the start. Boat types: the Lovina boat is a traditional fishing boat, and the other two listings do not describe the vessel.

Fishing Trip Bali

A fishing trip in Bali starts early. The Lovina listing opens with a welcome from your boat captain and a safety briefing, then a traditional fishing boat takes you to calm water off the north coast. You use hand lines and traditional techniques, and the guide helps beginners. A reviewer on that tour says they caught a tuna, and another had a rainy day but still caught six fish. The listing also offers a snorkel stop as an add-on, which is why this charter appears on my snorkeling tour page too.

The two Balitravelescape trips are different: they begin with a pickup from your hotel by private car, then travel to the starting point where you meet the guide or captain. The listing for the $55 trip describes its meeting point from Padang Bai port: follow the street about 100 metres and look for the Topi Inn restaurant on the left. For the $84 trip there is no meeting point at all, which means you rely on the pickup. Hotel transfers can lengthen the day, so I’d ask the operator for the time you leave the hotel.

Fishing Tours Bali

What separates fishing tours in Bali is the species named in the listing. The $55 charter lists barracuda, white snapper, red snapper, sailfish, mahi mahi and wahoo, plus tuna and bonito. It also says coral fishing is recommended and more popular than trolling for big fish. The $84 listing mentions that East Bali has red snapper, giant trevally and dogtooth tuna, calling the dogtooth tuna one of the most sought-after fish in the ocean. The Lovina listing says tuna, mahi-mahi or snapper.

I can’t tell you which month is best for any of them. The listings say it depends on the season, and none of them gives dates. For rules, regulations and permits on fishing in Indonesian waters, check with the operator, and use the BMKG marine forecast for wind and waves on the day.

Bali Fishing Tour

The tours differ on food. The $55 trip includes a mineral water or soft drink and says you will rest on a chair with an umbrella on the beach afterward, but lunch is listed as not included. The $84 trip includes a soft drink and no food. The Lovina tour includes mineral water and offers a cool towel and light refreshment after the tour, with a breakfast box as an optional add-on. Bring your own snacks for a five-hour trip.

Sunrise matters for the $84 trip, which is sold as a sunrise fishing and sightseeing trip. Sunrise in Bali is between 5:49 and 6:35 in the morning depending on the month, so pickup will be well before that.

Month Sunrise Month Sunrise
January 6:11 AM July 6:35 AM
February 6:22 AM August 6:29 AM
March 6:24 AM September 6:13 AM
April 6:22 AM October 5:56 AM
May 6:23 AM November 5:49 AM
June 6:31 AM December 5:56 AM

Times are for the 15th of each month at Bali’s coordinates, calculated for local time (UTC+8, no daylight saving), and the listing gives no start time, so confirm the departure with the operator.

Bali Fishing Trips

These Bali fishing trips differ most on who comes along. The Padang Bai and sunrise charters send a private car and an English-speaking driver, so they suit families who want a hotel-to-hotel day. The Lovina tour is closer to a local fishing outing than a charter in the usual sense, with a captain and a short beach briefing, and it ends with a towel and refreshment on the sand. One Lovina reviewer says the captain spent a lot of time helping them chase fish, which is the kind of detail I look for in a charter.

If you are comparing with other private boats, my yacht charter page covers the two yachts, and for a boat at dusk my sunset cruise page compares the evening trips. The sunrise charter is the only one here built around the morning light.

How to Pick a Fishing Charter in Bali

I’d pick a fishing charter in Bali by answering four questions in order. Where is your hotel? Lovina is a long drive from the south, so for a base in Sanur, Kuta or Nusa Dua the two Balitravelescape trips with a car pickup save a lot of planning, while Lovina suits travelers already staying in the north. How long do you want to fish? The $84 trip is 4 to 5 hours of fishing, the $55 trip is five hours inside a 5 to 7 hour day, and the Lovina tour lets you pick between 2.5 and 8 hours. Who is coming? Each is private, so a couple can book the smallest option and a family can share the cost of a boat. And what do you want to eat? Only the Lovina listing offers a breakfast box, as an add-on.

A fishing charter in Bali is also a weather decision. Every listing here has free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start, but none says what happens if the operator cancels at sea. Ask by message when you book. The operators contact you by WhatsApp or email at least 12 hours before the Lovina tour to confirm the pickup, so keep your phone on.

Fishing Charter Bali Price

Prices for a fishing charter in Bali run from $30 to $84, which makes them cheaper than the private yachts at $496 and $696. Per hour of listed fishing, the $55 charter works out at about $11 for its five hours, the $84 sunrise trip at roughly $17 to $21 for four to five hours, and the Lovina tour at $30 for a trip that runs between 2.5 and 8 hours. The cheapest isn’t automatically the best value: the Lovina price covers the boat and gear, but transport to Lovina is up to you unless you choose pickup.

Before you book a fishing charter in Bali, check three points: what the price covers (per boat or per person), the pickup area, and whether lunch is included. For anglers who want to compare every private boat in one place, start with my guide to boat tours in Bali and come back to this page for the fishing detail.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a fishing charter in Bali cost?

The three charters I compared cost $30, $55 and $84 in US dollars. The $30 Lovina tour has the shortest listed time at 2.5 hours and goes up to 8. The $55 Padang Bai charter is 5 to 7 hours with car pickup, and the $84 sunrise trip is 5 hours with car pickup from Kuta. Check whether the price is per boat or per person when you book.

Which is the best fishing charter in Bali?

For a full day I'd book the $55 Padang Bai charter: 5 hours of fishing, car pickup, an English-speaking driver and a guide or captain, rated 4.4 from 20 reviews. The $30 Lovina tour has the best price and 24 reviews at 4.3. The $84 sunrise trip scores 5.0, but only 12 people have rated it.

What fish can you catch on a fishing charter in Bali?

The listings name barracuda, white and red snapper, sailfish, mahi mahi, wahoo and tuna for the two Balitravelescape charters, and tuna, mahi-mahi or snapper for the Lovina tour. The $84 listing adds giant trevally and dogtooth tuna in East Bali. Catches depend on the season and the day, and none of the listings promises a fish.

Is a fishing charter in Bali private?

Yes, all three are private. The Lovina listing calls itself a private fishing tour, the Padang Bai charter is a private boat with a private car, and the sunrise trip is private as well. That means the boat is yours for the time, but check the number of guests on the booking page before inviting a group.

Can I keep the fish I catch in Bali?

The $55 Padang Bai listing says fresh fish you catch can be taken to your hotel for a barbecue, and many hotels can prepare it. The Lovina listing mentions a light refreshment after the trip but says nothing about taking fish. Ask the operator about the catch before you go, especially if you plan to cook it.

Can I cancel a fishing charter in Bali?

Yes. All three listings give a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the start. That matters for fishing, because wind and swell change what is possible on the day. Read the cutoff on the page you book, and confirm the pickup time with the operator, who contacts you by WhatsApp or email before the trip.
