A gondola ride in Venice is the quickest way onto the Grand Canal: about 30 minutes in a black rowing boat, with a gondolier at the back. I compared three of them, from $42 to $44, and they differ less in the boat than in what surrounds the ride. If you want the wider picture first, my guide to boat tours in Venice puts these gondolas next to the island and sunset trips. Prices are in US dollars, checked in October 2026, and the booking links are affiliate links, as I explain on my about page.
My pick is the City Tours Co gondola ride with storytelling and gondola gallery at $44: 4.2 from 18,018 reviews, 1 to 3 hours depending on the options. If you want the lowest price, the Grand Canal ride with app commentary is $42 with 26,743 reviews, the most of any boat trip I looked at in the city. The plain shared gondola is $44 and rated 3.9, the lowest in my Venice list.
Gondola Ride Venice Italy
A gondola ride in Venice, Italy, is short, and that is the first thing to plan around. All three listings give you about 30 minutes in the boat. The two City Tours Co rides pass the Teatro La Fenice, the Grand Canal, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the Salute church and the Punta della Dogana. The shared ride from Bucintoro Viaggi names the Grand Canal, Campo San Luca, the Rialto bridge, the Teatro La Fenice and Campo Manin. This page is about Venice in Italy: the gondolas at the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas and the ones in Venice, Florida, are separate products and are not covered here.
From the Rialto bridge to the Salute church is 0.8 kilometers in a straight line by my calculation from the place coordinates, and Piazza San Marco is 0.5 kilometers from the Salute. So a gondola ride in Venice, at half an hour on the water, covers a short stretch of the city, and a gondola ride in Venice is best seen as a taste of the canals, not a full tour. The gondola is a traditional flat-bottomed rowing boat of the Venetian lagoon, and Wikipedia’s gondola article is a good place for the boat’s history.
CITY TOURS CO LTD
- ★ 4.2 (18,018 reviews)
- 1 - 3 hours
- Free cancellation
My pick: My pick: $44, 4.2 from 18,018 reviews, storytelling, skip-the-line and a gondola gallery; 1 to 3 hours with options.
The listing starts with a 20-minute guided introduction, then the traditional gondola ride of about 30 minutes, and ends in the Gondola Gallery, where you see a sectioned gondola and a 3D experience of how one is built. Options add a city center walking tour, a Ca’ Rezzonico palace ticket, or a visit to St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace. It lists skip-the-line service, and the languages are English, French, Spanish, German and Italian.
Venice Gondola Tour
A Venice gondola tour is more than the boat when you book the right listing. The $42 City Tours Co ride has the same shape, with a 20-minute introduction, a gondola of about 30 minutes and a visit to the gallery, but its commentary comes through an app instead of a guide. The listing includes Wi-Fi at the meeting point to download the app, and a VR segment on the history of the gondola. Live commentary by the gondolier and headphones are listed as not included, so bring your own earphones.
Reviews are positive about the opening talk. One says it was a lovely little trip with fantastic commentary beforehand about the history of gondolas, and another admits they only wanted the ride and still called it a dream come true, although the introduction ran 30 to 45 minutes. It has 26,743 reviews at 4.2, so the pattern is well established. A private version of the 30-minute ride is a listed option, and in that version the introduction is not included.

- 30 minutes - 2 hours

My pick: The cheapest of the three at $42, 26,743 reviews at 4.2; app commentary and a private-ride option.
For a different kind of Venice gondola tour, Bucintoro Viaggi runs a shared ride for up to 5 other people with a master gondolier. There is no introduction and no gallery, which makes it the simplest version. It meets at the Alilaguna ticket office at the Grandinetti pier, beyond the souvenir stalls, in front of the Royal Gardens gate. Hotel pickup and gratuities are not included.

My pick: Plain shared gondola, about 30 minutes for $44; rated 3.9 from 7,028 reviews, so I'd book it last.

Gondola Ride Venice Price
The price of a gondola ride in Venice looks almost flat in my data, $42 to $44, but the totals differ. The shared Bucintoro Viaggi ride at $44 buys 30 minutes and nothing else. The $44 storytelling ride buys the same 30 minutes plus a 20-minute introduction, the gallery and skip-the-line service. The $42 ride is the best value for what you get, and it is also the one with a private option. The price of a Venice gondola ride therefore does not tell you which gondola ride is best, and the inclusions do.
Extras change the total. The City Tours Co listings offer a Ca’ Rezzonico ticket, a St. Mark’s Basilica and Doge’s Palace visit and a walking tour as options, and each one adds to the price. A tip for the gondolier is listed as not included on the Bucintoro Viaggi ride, and I would leave the budget for it. I would also check whether your date is sold out, because these three are the busiest products in my Venice data.
Venice Gondola Tour Prices
If you are comparing Venice gondola tour prices with the other boats in the city, a gondola ride is a short, cheap item. The shared Murano and Burano boat to the islands starts at $22 and lasts at least four hours, and the Prosecco sunset cruise is $107 for about 1.5 hours. On price per minute on the water, a gondola ride is the most expensive way to be on a boat in Venice, and on price per sight it is one of the best. I’d book it for the Grand Canal and the narrow side canals, and take the island boat for the lagoon.
Time of day matters more than the price. A morning gondola ride in Venice is calm, and an evening ride lands in the golden hour. For that I’d look at my page on a sunset cruise in Venice, which has sunset times for every month and puts a catamaran, a kayak and a traditional boat next to each other. A gondola is the rare Venice boat trip that does not need a long block of time, which makes it easy to slot between a museum and lunch.
Which Gondola Ride I’d Book
My short answer for a Venice gondola ride is the $44 City Tours Co ride with storytelling and the gondola gallery, because 18,018 reviewers rate it 4.2 and it is the most complete. Here is how I would decide:
- Best overall: the $44 storytelling ride, with the gallery and skip-the-line.
- Lowest price and a private option: the $42 app-commentary ride, 26,743 reviews.
- Shortest and simplest: the $44 shared ride, 30 minutes, but rated 3.9.
- A private boat for a group: not a gondola, but my private boat tour in Venice page compares three.
Before you book any gondola ride in Venice, check the meeting point, which depends on the option you pick on two of the three listings, and the cancellation text, which is free up to 24 hours on all of them. Compare the options above, then use the booking links to see availability for your date, or go back to the homepage for the other cities I cover.
