Sydney Boat Trips – Retro Party Cruise on Sydney Harbour

If you are planning a party boat Sydney has a handful of tickets that work as a night out: I found three themed cruises on GetYourGuide at $28, $62 and $69, all leaving from King Street Wharf in Darling Harbour. They are shared boats with a DJ and a bar, so you are buying a seat at someone else’s party. My boat tours in Sydney comparison covers the daytime and sightseeing options.

My pick: the Vagabond retro party cruise at $62, for the food board, the DJ and the 3 hours, but I’d say plainly that its 4.2 comes from 3 reviews. Prices are US dollars from the listings, checked in October 2026, and booking links are affiliate links.

Party Boat Sydney Harbour

All three Sydney party boats sail on the harbour, board at King Street Wharf and run in the evening. The table compares them, and I would read the review column first.

Cruise Operator Price Duration Boarding Rating Cancellation
Retro Party Cruise with snacks Vagabond Cruises $62 3 hours King Street Wharf, number on boarding pass 4.2 (3) Free up to 24 hours
Throw Back 80s, 90s and 2000s Party Cruise Inception Cruises $28 3.5 hours King Street Wharf 3 3.4 (3) Free up to 24 hours
Diwali Party Cruise Vagabond Cruises $69 3 hours King Street Wharf 8 No reviews yet Free up to 24 hours

Review counts are the weak point of this page. Two of the three have 3 reviews and the third has none, so the ratings tell you very little about the nights themselves. What the listings do tell me is the format. The Vagabond retro cruise lists a fresh harvest board and hot finger food, a fully licensed bar with packages, an all-night retro DJ, a 90s nostalgia candy bar and prizes. The Inception cruise lists a multi-level vessel with indoor and open-air decks, a dancefloor and DJs playing 80s synth, 90s hits and 2000s dance music, and it says alcohol and food are extra.

Party Boat Sydney Hire

Many people who search for a party boat in Sydney want a whole boat, and I have to be honest that my data does not include one. The three party cruises are shared departures. A hire is a different product, priced per vessel, and the nearest equivalents in my comparison are the two GoBoat electric boats, which are meant for a small group, not for a DJ and a bar. Their rental details are on my boat rental page.

Google Maps lists several operators around Darling Harbour and Pyrmont, including Sydney Showboats and Sydney Luxury Cruise, but I do not have a price, capacity or inclusions for them, and I don’t want to guess. If you need a full-boat quote for a birthday or a work party, ask two or three operators for the same date and party size, and compare the figure per head against the $28 to $69 tickets on this page.

Party Boat Sydney New Years Eve

No party cruise on this page is a New Year’s Eve ticket. Searches for a boat party Sydney New Year run to about 380 a month in my keyword data, but the listings I have do not state dates for 31 December, nor a price for that night. Open the booking page, choose 31 December and read what comes up for that date: the price, the boarding time, what is included and the cancellation policy.

The Inception throwback cruise says it sails every Saturday night, which is the only schedule any of the three states. I’d also note that holiday tickets often have different cancellation terms, so read them before you pay. The Diwali cruise is a seasonal event and not a New Year ticket, and I give its details in the next section.

Sydney Party Cruise

A Sydney party cruise is a three-hour evening, so the practical questions are boarding, food and what to wear. The Vagabond retro cruise sends a boarding pass in a separate email, with the wharf number on it, and you board at King Street Wharf in Darling Harbour. The Diwali party cruise boards at 7:25 PM from King Street Wharf 8 and departs at 7:40 PM, which is the only stated timetable in my data. It includes a Diwali glow mocktail on arrival, a Bollywood DJ, an Indian buffet dinner, dessert, coffee and tea, and a best-dressed competition with prizes.

On the Inception boat the music is the draw: the listing says the DJs play 80s synth, 90s bangers and 2000s dance floor anthems, and the bars sell cocktails, beer, wine, cider and spirits. It has indoor and open-air decks, so you can step out of the noise. Neither Vagabond nor Inception lists a dress code beyond the Diwali best-dressed competition, so I would dress for the theme and for a breezy deck. The Vagabond retro listing excludes wheelchair users and electric wheelchairs.

The size of the group changes which party boat in Sydney works. The Diwali listing is tagged as a small group, the Inception boat is a multi-level vessel and the Vagabond retro cruise does not state a capacity, so I can’t tell you how crowded any of them gets. If you are booking for eight friends, buy the tickets in one order so that you board together, and ask each operator whether seating is shared. For a first party boat Sydney visitors rarely regret, I would pick the cruise with food on the ticket, because three hours of dancing on an empty stomach is a long evening.

Boat Party Sydney Tickets

Boat party tickets in Sydney depend on what is bundled. At $28 the Inception cruise is the cheapest ticket in my whole comparison, but food and alcohol are on top. At $62 the Vagabond retro cruise includes the food board and finger food, and drinks are extra through the bar or a package. At $69 the Diwali cruise includes a full buffet dinner, dessert and a mocktail, so it is the best value per course but a seasonal event.

All three are free to cancel up to 24 hours before the start. I’d treat the very low review counts as a reason to book a refundable ticket and read the most recent reviews on the booking page before you commit a group. If you want a dinner on a quieter boat instead of a dance floor, my dinner cruise page compares the three seated options from Darling Harbour and Circular Quay.

How I’d Choose a Party Boat in Sydney

Before you book a party boat Sydney offers, check the date, the boarding time and the wharf number on the booking page, and compare it with the daytime boat tours in Sydney for a calmer alternative. The site home page lists the other cities I have covered.

If you are comparing other trips on the water, I also cover whale watching cruises, fishing charters, guided kayak tours, guided snorkeling trips, sunset cruises.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a party boat in Sydney?

I found three party cruises on GetYourGuide. The Inception Cruises 80s, 90s and 2000s party is $28, the Vagabond retro party cruise is $62 and the Vagabond Diwali party cruise is $69. Food and alcohol are bought on board on the cheapest one, while the other two include a food board or a buffet.

Where do the Sydney party boats leave from?

All three board at King Street Wharf in Darling Harbour: Wharf 3 for the Inception throwback cruise, Wharf 8 for the Vagabond Diwali cruise and King Street Wharf for the Vagabond retro cruise, whose exact number is on your boarding pass. The Diwali listing gives a boarding time of 7:25 PM and a departure of 7:40 PM.

Are drinks included on a Sydney party cruise?

No, not alcohol. The Inception listing says alcohol and food are not included but are available to buy at its licensed bars, and the Vagabond listings offer bar packages you can purchase on board. The Diwali cruise includes a Diwali glow mocktail on arrival, which is non-alcoholic, so plan a drinks budget on top of the ticket.

How long is a party cruise on Sydney Harbour?

Three hours for both Vagabond cruises and 3.5 hours for the Inception throwback party. Because the boats sail in the evening, that usually means leaving around 7 to 8 PM and returning near midnight. The only departure time stated in my data is the Diwali cruise, which boards at 7:25 PM and departs at 7:40 PM.

Can I hire a whole party boat in Sydney?

Not from my comparison. The three listed party cruises are shared tickets, and the only boats you can take on your own are the GoBoat electric picnic boats at $103 and $172. They are not party boats with a DJ. For a private party on a larger vessel, contact an operator directly for a quote.
