CARIBBEAN ROUTE PUNTA CANA
Catamaran Boat to Saona Island with Buffet Lunch
4.4 (4,750) · from $71

A catamaran in Punta Cana is the standard boat for a half day on the water: two hulls, a wide deck, a bar and a net to lie on. I compared 4 catamaran trips, from $58 to $84, plus the long Saona Island day at $71, and all of them appear in my full list of boat tours in Punta Cana. Prices are in US dollars, checked in October 2026, and the booking links are affiliate links, as I explain on my about page.
My pick for a catamaran in Punta Cana is Happy Fish Catamarans: $84, 3.5 hours, 4.8 from 457 reviews. For a day out of the resort area I’d choose the Caribbean Route Saona Island catamaran at $71 for 8 hours.

Catamaran trips in Punta Cana from Bavaro are the half-day format: about 3.5 hours with hotel pickup, drinks, snacks and a snorkeling stop. Happy Fish Catamarans sails around Punta Cana and Cabo Engano on what the listing calls a premium catamaran, with a snorkeling stop in a nature reserve and a floating bar at Sandbar Cove. It includes nachos and salsa, seasonal fruit, bottled water, snorkeling equipment, a stand-up paddle board and a restroom on board. With 457 reviews at 4.8, I treat it as the best-evidenced half-day catamaran in my list.
Coastline Catamarans is the second half-day option, $10 cheaper at $74. The listing describes a bus transfer from your accommodation to the dock, then a catamaran with a crew, an open bar, snacks and snorkeling gear. It is rated 4.7 from 315 reviews and lists tips as included.
Punta Cana catamaran tours differ less in the boat than in what surrounds it. Happy Fish and Coastline aim at snorkelers, Kayleeg at partygoers and Caribbean Route at people who want an island. On every one the price covers drinks, so the main cost to compare is the transfer time you will spend before you step aboard.
Kayleeg’s catamaran boat party is $58 for 3.5 hours, the cheapest of the four, and is rated 4.4 from 87 reviews. It lists pickup in Cabeza de Toro, Bavaro, Uvero Alto or Punta Cana, appetizers, refreshments, music, snorkel equipment, a professional guide and tips. Alcohol is only for adults, and the exclusions list names pregnant women, wheelchair users and babies under 1 year. For a longer comparison of the music-led boats, read my page on party boats in Punta Cana.
A Punta Cana boat trip on a catamaran can also be a full day. The Caribbean Route trip to Saona Island is $71 for 8 hours and is by far the most reviewed boat tour I found, with 4,750 reviews and a 4.4 rating. The listing has two pickup options, then a drive of about half an hour, a stop at La Guira Cafe, a stop at Bayahibe Beach, a stop at a natural swimming pool (30 minutes in the inclusions, 40 in the itinerary) and about 3 hours on Saona Island, including a one-hour buffet lunch. Both a speed boat and a catamaran are used to get there.
That is a lot of bus for a boat day, so I would book it only if you want to see the island. The VIP option adds lobster and premium drinks, according to the inclusions list. The listing says it is not suitable for pregnant women, people with mobility impairments or wheelchair users.
Punta Cana boat tours that are not catamarans are covered in my other guides: private boats on the yacht charter in Punta Cana page, fishing on the fishing charter in Punta Cana page, and snorkeling-first trips on my page about snorkeling in Punta Cana. A Punta Cana catamaran is the better value if you are traveling in a group of friends or a family, because the price is per person and includes food and drink, while a private yacht costs from $330 for the whole boat.
In my list three other tours also use a catamaran but belong more to a different type. The Sunny Adventures party boat is a lively catamaran with a hip-hop DJ at $59, the Dominican Attitude whale trip boards a catamaran at $201, and the Saona Island Club day ends on a catamaran at sunset for $155. The sunset options are on my sunset cruise in Punta Cana page, and the whale trip is on my whale watching page.
A Punta Cana catamaran excursion works best if you decide first what you want from the day. If it is a swim and a drink, the half-day catamarans are enough. If it is a beach and lunch, the Saona day is the one. If it is the music, go for Kayleeg. Before booking, check three things in the listing: the pickup area, the language of the guide and the exclusions list.
Happy Fish lists English and Spanish, Coastline lists Spanish and English, Kayleeg lists Spanish, English and French, and Caribbean Route lists six languages, including German, Italian and Portuguese. All four offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. Google Maps lists Coastline Catamarans as a tour operator rated 5.0 from 669 reviews, which broadly agrees with its 4.7 on the booking platform.
The ticket price is not the whole bill on a catamaran in Punta Cana. Happy Fish and Coastline both list drinks, snacks and gear in the price, so you pay only for photos or tips you add yourself. The Caribbean Route Saona trip lists souvenir photos and a DVD as optional purchases, and its lobster upgrade is part of the VIP option only. Kayleeg includes tips in the price, while the Sunny Adventures party boat says tips for the crew are not included but appreciated.
The second cost is time. A 3.5-hour catamaran tour can take more than 6 hours of your day once the bus, the dock and the return are counted. The Hip Hop Party Boat, which is not one of the four catamarans above, lists a one-hour bus each way, and the Saona trip lists two coach legs of 30 and 25 minutes before the island. I’d ask your hotel where the dock is before you pick the cheapest listing, because a longer transfer wipes out a $10 saving.
Weather is the last factor. A catamaran has a wide, stable deck, but I can’t tell you how rough the sea will be on your day, and none of the listings states a wind limit. If the forecast is poor, I would rebook within the free-cancellation window rather than hope the crew sails.
Whichever catamaran in Punta Cana you pick, read the exclusions and book a free-cancellation option. For the whole list go back to every Punta Cana boat trip I compared or to my home page.
In my list a party catamaran costs $58, the Saona Island catamaran day costs $71, Coastline Catamarans costs $74 and Happy Fish Catamarans costs $84. Three of them last 3.5 hours and the Saona trip lasts 8 hours. Prices are per person in US dollars and were checked in October 2026.
For most visitors I'd choose Happy Fish Catamarans: $84, 3.5 hours, rated 4.8 from 457 reviews, with snorkeling, food, an open bar and a paddle board. If you want a long day instead, I'd take the Caribbean Route Saona Island catamaran, which is $71 for 8 hours and has 4,750 reviews.
Coastline Catamarans calls its tour family friendly, and it excludes pregnant women and people with motion sickness. Happy Fish excludes pregnant women and wheelchair users. The Kayleeg party catamaran serves alcohol to adults and excludes babies under 1 year. Check each listing's age rules before you book.
Yes on all four. The Caribbean Route trip lists beer, rum and soft drinks, Coastline and Happy Fish list an open bar, and Kayleeg lists unlimited drinks with alcohol for adults only. Lobster and premium drinks are listed only in the VIP option of the Saona trip. I'd check which brands count as national drinks.
All four list hotel pickup. Kayleeg names Cabeza de Toro, Bavaro, Uvero Alto and Punta Cana. The Caribbean Route trip offers two pickup options and visits Bayahibe Beach on the way to Saona Island. Happy Fish and Coastline take you to the dock by bus or van. The listings don't name the dock.
